Below are just a few of the most common germs/bacterias that can live in your swimming pool if it is not professionally maintained by a trained swimming pool technician.

Algae is a germ that turns your swimming pool water greenish or yellow brown.

E.Coli has pili which are spiky little hairs with sticky tips that help it cling to surfaces. If you drink swimming pool water that has E.Coli in it, it can give you a very bad stomach ache and diarrhoea.

Shigella Sonnei is a rod shaped critter that can cause a bad case of diarrhoea. Swimmers who use the toilet and then use the swimming pool without washing their hands may carry this germ into the swimming pool.

Legionella Pneumophila has a flagellum which is a thin whip attached to its main section, that helps it move about in water, it can cause pneumonia, a serious infection of the lungs.

Pseudomonas Aeruginosa is a fast moving germ that may enter your pool on a swimmers bodies or in dirt taken into the swimming pool on swimmers feet. (The long whip like tail helps this critter get around). This germ causes a bumpy, itchy skin rash and an earache known as "swimmers ear".

Cryptosporidium Parvum is a germ that may enter your pool in the droppings of birds or other animals. It may cause a very bad case of diarrhoea in swimmers if it is swallowed with a gulp of water. Eradicating this germ is a challenge.

Giardia Lamblia looks like it has two eyes, however, they are not eyes they are nuclei a simple kind of brain. Giardia can cause a bad case of diarrhoea.
